Urdu Need For Dominance Scale
Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate a culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate for assessing Need for Dominance for Pakistani populations. An initial pool of 39 items was generated and refined through expert review, with 26 items retained after removing those with low item total correlations. Principal Component Analysis with Oblimin rotation revealed a three-factor structure i.e., Dominance, Resilience, and Autonomy, which together explained 35.28% of the total variance. The scale demonstrated good internal consistency (α = .80), with subscale reliabilities of .81, .74, and .51, and showed convergent validity through moderate positive correlations with the Dominance subscale of the established Dominance and Prestige Scale. These results suggest that the scale is a reliable, valid, and culturally relevant tool for assessing dominance-related tendencies in research and applied settings, providing a useful resource for studying personality and social behavior among Urdu-speaking adults.
